This week CMS released the full nationwide results of the second year of MIPS. Participation is at 98% and of the participants 98% met or exceeded the minimum score of 15 points. What they neglected to highlight was the maximum amount of reimbursement anyone across the country received was a 1.68% increase to their Medicare Part B reimbursement. But for those of you frustrated by the maximum effort you give to the program with the minuscule return, there is hope.
In 2020, the fee schedule reduction increased to -9% for those not meeting the minimum score, which also increased to 45 points. Translation, there will be more clinicians getting greater penalties for not meeting the minimum score, which means those who score well will get a bigger reimbursement than they've seen in the past.
Now is not the year to give up! Now is the time to perform in the top tier so you can be assured a greater piece of the financial pie.
