HAC Facts: Hospitals Penalized in 2019

HAC Facts: Hospitals Penalized in 2019

In last week's post, we reviewed the risk for not reporting to the various regulatory reporting programs. Today we're going to take a closer look at what it means to get hit with a penalty from one particular program: The Hospital-Acquired Condition (HAC) program.

Each year, hospitals among the bottom 25% of the worst HAC performers are faced with a 1% reduction to their Medicare reimbursement. In 2019, 800 hospitals are expected to receive a HAC penalty, and 110 of those hospitals will be getting hit for the fifth year in a row. With a cumulative reduction of 5%, that's gotta hurt!

Take a look at our slideshow below to learn more about HACs, including what's at stake for poor HAC performance, which states had the most hospitals penalized in 2019 and the progress hospitals have made over the years to reduce their HAC incidents.

Medisolv is dedicated to helping health care organizations improve their quality performance in areas such as HACS. Reach out today to learn more about our quality reporting software and clinical expert support.
